Welcome to Thaur!

Located at the foothills of the Nordkette mountain range, Thaur is a traditional village still dominated by agriculture. Be sure to discover the work of the wood carvers, vegetable farmers and the village’s rich theater tradition!

Another attraction are the traditional Thaur Muller runs (scary figures in costumes). Do they contribute to the fact that radish, salad etc seems to grow better in Thaur than anywhere else in Tirol? Maybe not, but because of its agricultural wealth Thaur is also known as Tirol’s “vegetable garden”, and has received important quality accolades for its vegetables.

Thaur's rich wood carving tradition shows in the impressive masks of the Fasnacht carnival figures. The Thaur wood carvers are well-known beyond country borders. At Easter, the Palm Sunday procession in Thaur is one of the most beautiful in the country.

Thaur also offers several cultural highlights. Visit Thaur castle, the village's landmark, Ulrich church, the oldest in Tirol, and the idyllic Romedius church. In summer, be sure to check out the open air theater at the castle!
