In 1997 an architecture competition for the planning of the new Congress Centrum Alpbach was launched in Tirol. From the 34 projects passed in the jury decided on the design of the Innsbruck architect´s office "din a4" (Conrad Messner, Markus Prackwieser, Andreas Scharmer, Othmar Zobl).
The new CONGRESS CENTRUM ALPBACH was completed within a construction phase of 222 days only. The helical-shaped gallery of glass walls shines like a crystal. A light shows down the free space in the centre. Embedded in the mountain, the construction meets the requirements of modern understanding of nature and energy consumption.
The design of the seminar rooms provides a stimulating atmosphere and encourages the flow of conversation. The concept fulfils all requirements of the Alpbach convention organizing team - plenary assembly and working teams. Amenities include a plenary hall and five parallel rooms with state-of-the-art technology facilities. They foyers are designed to fulfil multi-purpose functions: as reception area, for coffee breaks and catering or for special exhibitions.

The Fuggerstube is the oldest Sube and dates back to the 15th Century. At this time it was owned by the Augsburger Fugger who mined silver and copper in Alpbach. The Fuggerstube was the court of jurisdiction for the Fugger House and all offical acts took place here.
The Stube is in its original form although there have been two fires.
With an a la carte restaurant it has a very special flair and one can feel the extraordinarly atmosphere of the last 500 years.
50 years ago in Alpbachtal there were 25 such water operated flour mills. The Stettauer Mill was rebuilt to keep it for this and future generations. Visitors may take freshly made flour from purified wheat with them.
Both buildings are situated in the middle of Höhlenweg between Alpbach and Inneralpbach. There is no charge for visiting these mills.

The farm was built between 1636 and 1638 by local carpenters and was occupied until 1952.
In 1975 the living space of the farm was taken on lease by the local authority of Alpbach. They completed its original furniture and old farming tools and opened it to the public. Mrs. and Mr. Schießling, the owners of the farm, are now working as museum guides and are pleased to tell about the specific features of this alpine farm museum:
The farmer's parlor, where the old clothes still hang over the tiled stove, as if the farmer had just took off his jacket. The smoke kitchen with plenty of old pans, bowls and mugs. The popular and delicious Alpbach bacon is still smoked in this kitchen. On the first floor you find the bedrooms of the married couple and their children with precious Alpbach wardrobes, cases and chests, partly filled with bed linen from the 18th century which was totally handmade. A special feature is the old house chapel.

Those who know Alpbach, have an idea why this picturesque village can boast awards like "most beautiful village of Austria" or "most beautiful flower village of Europe". The terrific alpine landscape, the location on a sunny plateau, the well-maintained houses in typical Alpbach wood style as well as the lived identity with local culture and traditions are the essential elements of this unique Tirolean mountain village.
On the initiative of Kommerzialrat Alfons Moser, mayor of Alpbach from 1945 to 1979, the local council passed the local building regulations and decreed that new buildings had to match the traditional Alpbach style.
In August 1983 Alpbach was elected "the most beautiful village of Austria" in a television competition of the ORF due to its homogeneous wooden style and flower arrangements.
The only exception to this is the Congress Center Alpbach - a masterpiece that blends design, ambiance and functionality.
Associations - companies race at the Galten Mountain lift in Inneralpbach!
